Giving yourself some time and space to relax and nurture yourself is very important in this hectic world.
Yoga is available to everybody. It doesn’t matter how stiff or weak you may be feeling, flexibility and strength will gradually come. In fact I also teach a class for those with Multiple Sclerosis. You don’t need any special clothing or equipment, apart from a non slip mat to work on.
I have all levels of fitness and yoga experience in the same group. I have people with bad backs, shoulders and feet. The postures can be adapted so they can be performed by anyone, experienced or beginner; supple or stiff.
My aim is to bring yoga into every area of my life. Whether it’s how I’m sitting or standing, what I eat, how I think or how I treat other people, I try to integrate the teachings of yoga into my whole being, bringing balance and peace into my life.
Does this mean I can be found in deep meditation at the dawn of each day, Saluting the Sun as I face the sun-rise? Um, no, actually. I practise a little of each of the ‘eight limbs of yoga’ throughout my waking hours.
When I teach my classes, I focus on how my students can also bring some of the awareness they have discovered into their busy lives. I have many examples of how they have done this; helping them to relax, focus and use their energy rather than their muscles to help in their daily activities.
I feel blessed to be able to share some of the ancient secrets of yoga with others through my classes and I find it especially uplifting to learn how those new to it find immediate benefits after their very first session
